Consume

We’re down to the last one. Your final prototype for the semester. With a theme like consume I’m interested to see what you develop. As per usual, please turn in your prototype in the comments section by 7:15 PM on November 8th.

Don’t forget that next class you will be signing up for times to meet with me to discuss your final project. It’s a quick 10-15 minute conversation where we will discuss which prototype you want to continue working on and what you plan on doing to make it into a more complete and fun experience. If you can’t make it to class to sign up I’ll be assigning you a time slot!

  1. Here’s mine for now. I’ll try to replace more of the place-holder art before class if I can remember how to do pixel art between now and then. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bqyxkr5tu4mnqgy/xJWHzuQAjJ/runAway.exe

Not my best work, though I had a lot of projects and put polishing this guy off. Originally I wanted to include a lot more art/detail with the Om Nom world from the game Cut the Rope, though I ended up using basic sprites instead.

Use A and D to move. The goal is to get as much food as possible, while ignoring the bombs, which grow steadily in number. Getting a cherry will give you a temporary speed boost.

  3. Move with left and right arrow respectively. Eat your food responsibly!

Tried my hand at an RTS of sorts this week. Focus on resource consumption.

  5. My initial idea was to work on a matching game where the player was ‘feeding’ their character with every match they made. I didn’t realize how long a matching system would take to build so I turned it into Tetris. I still want to add the ‘feeding’ mechanic into this game but this is all I had time for. Enjoy!

Use the ‘Up’ arrow to rotate the piece and use the ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ arrows to move the piece.

Here it is. A and D to move left and right, Space to jump. Once you grow you can use Z to shoot. R should reset the game.

    Press Space to eat sand.
    Left mouse launches a bomb
    Lead sprouting plants to water
Once one plant is done, another will appear at the top.

My major problem with Construct is that there’s no easy way to do a Highscore Table, so I don’t know how to end the game.

here it is, didn’t have much time this week, and couldn’t think of anything
    essentially it’s a kirby spinoff
    wasd to move
right click to suck up an enemy
right click again to shoot it
space to swallow an enemy and get a bit of health back

I’m pretty happy with my prototype this week 🙂 I’m calling it “Consume: A Visual Text Adventure”. Hopefully it works!

Actually, I have a theory about why a lot of my games weren’t working before, which I’m going to test out when I get to class. I think it had to do with the size of the MP3 files I was using for background music. First of all, some of them seem to be about three times the size of the rest of the games, and then I look back on it, I think the games always crashed when the music should have started. We’ll see, anyway. There are 2 links here, one with music and one without (so actually, if you don’t have headphones or some way of listening to the sound anyway, you might as well download the music-less version since it’s a lot smaller).

    No Music:

  11. The change to the iOS app brings that system’s version in line with the relaxation of
the business’s choices. Go to Start, All Applications, Accessories, Method
    Resources, Disk Defragmenter.
